Do you think is it strictly necessary to play Baroque music on original fltes?

I prefer to play baroque music on baroque flutes but just today made a recording of the flute part to Bach's Aus Liebe on my Louis Lot, Villette shop flute.

I made a comparison video playing the same thing on a baroque flute.

Yes, the sound is very different, but it is not the only quality to makes this difference.

As you well know (and clearly show in your videos), Baroque music requires a different approach and the historical flute is nearer to it.

The "inequality" of tone - which someone considers a problem - in my opinion is one of the most beautiful characters of Baroque music.

Indeed, I often see people claiming that they can do anything on the modern flute that the baroque flute can do. That is one of the reasons I made this demonstration, in that I'm playing the Louis Lot in as close as possible to how I play the baroque flute. The character of different notes, which is so beautiful and fundamental to the baroque flute, really can't be accomplished on the Boehm flute. The overtone structure is also completely different, although if played on a conical Boehm it would be considerably closer. I think that the sound of this Louis Lot from 1879 is a bit better than a normal "modern flute" for playing this music, because it is a somewhat more intimate sound. I do find both version to be quite beautiful and I think they represent the music well.

I don't think  its necessary to only use period flutes to play baroque music. I don't see why you can't use a modern flute, just as a modern recorder player can play Vivaldi or Telemann on a new plastic recorder if he or she wishes.
