On September 20, 2021, at the age of 94, the Honored Artist of Russia, Honored Artist of Russia, Professor of the Department of Woodwind Instruments of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory Alexandra Mikhailovna Vavilina tragically died.

Alexandra Vavilina was born on February 12, 1928 in Leningrad. Since 1969 she was a flute professor at the St. Petersburg Conservatory named after N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov. She became an Honored Artist of the USSR in 1974. Vavilina was the widow of the Soviet conductor Yevgeny Mravinsky. After the conductor's death in 1988, she prepared and published Mravinsky's diaries.

We will be preparing an article dedicated to A.M.Vavilina for the Third Edition of The Babel Flute, to be published in December 2021
