Birthday of Jean Louis Tulou

Jean Louis Tulou (Paris, September 12, 1786). His father, Jean Pierre, played the bassoon in the orchestra at Paris Opera. At ten, he entered the Conservatory as a student, where received lessons by Wunderlich. Considered as one of the best flutist of his generation, he was acclaimed for the perfect tune, the beautiful sound, the inimitable grace and refinement of his expression. Principal flutist at the Opéra Italienne, then succeeded to the position of his master Wunderlich at the Grand Opéra.

Birthday of Karl Doppler

Karl Doppler (12 September 1825, Lemberg – 10 March 1900, Stuttgart) was a Hungarian flute virtuoso, conductor, music director, composer. He was the younger brother of the composer Franz Doppler and father of the composer Árpád Doppler.

He worked until 1865 as music director at the Theater in Budapest, and from 1865 to 1898 as the Hofkapellmeister in Stuttgart. He composed several Hungarian operas, a collection of Hungarian folk dances and choirs.

Saverio Mercadante (baptised 17 September 1795) was an Italian flutist and composer. He wrote 60 operas, flute concertos, chamber music. He was also director of Music Conservatory of Naples.s own lifetime, he composed as prolific a number of works as either; and his development of operatic structures, melodic styles and orchestration contributed significantly to the foundations upon which Giuseppe Verdi built his dramatic technique.

Julius Baker (September 23, 1915 – August 6, 2003) was one of the foremost American orchestral flute players. During the course of five decades he concertized with several of America's premier orchestral ensembles including the Chicago Symphony and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.

Julius Baker was well known as a teacher and served as a faculty member at the Juilliard School, Curtis Institute of Music, and Carnegie Mellon University. He made many recordings with conductors such as Bruno Walter and Leonard Bernstein,

Birthday of Jacques-Martin Hotteterre

Jacques-Martin Hotteterre (29 September 1674) Surnamed "Le Romain" on account of his having resided in Rome during his youth. Son of a celebrated wind instrument maker in Paris, he became a musician to the King of France. He played also the bassoon and the oboe. Teacher of aristocratic people, he wrote one method for the transverse flute, recorder, and oboe, published in 1707. His L'Art de préluder sur la flûte traversière was published in 1719.
